Summary:

The Assistant Manager of Lift Operations is responsible for the winter and summer operations of the lift systems and the employees who operate them. This dynamic managerial position directly oversees all aspects of the Lift Operations department for half the resort with direct responsibility for safety awareness, standards compliance, guest service, and team development. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator, natural leader and enjoys the challenge of driving change in a fluid culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively manage 60-70 lift operations employees for a designated number of lifts.

  • Coaches, seeks counsel and advises management as needed regarding a variety of issues; responsible for maintaining communication throughout the department of all issues affecting employees, management, and regulations.

  • Understand federal, state, and local regulations as they pertain to Lift Operations. Oversee Supervisors and Training to operate within all applicable codes and standards: USFS, CA Labor, ANSI, OSHAregulations and Vail Resorts lift operations policies and procedures.

  • Lead the lift operations management team through the development and implementation of all necessary department programs to provide for: staffing, training, safety, goal setting, employee performance and discipline, employee retention and incentive, payroll, work comp., code compliance and record keeping.

  • Actively participate with the Lift Operations & other Mountain Operations leadership groups as needed.

  • Safety conscious and responsible to company safety guidelines and procedures as they apply to Lift Operations – able to set the example and hold others to those standards.

  • Align with Health and Safety departments to develop and create accountability policies and safety initiatives.

  • High Service standards and a passion for serving others. Able to motivate and challenge employees to go above and beyond guest expectations every day.

  • Assist in preparation and affective implementation of departmental budgets, as well as monitoring staffing levels accordingly. This includes monitoring daily financial reports and reporting on variances from budget.

  • Actively hire the best possible lift operations supervisory group and drive the recruitment process of high quality front line staff.

  • Resolution of employee issues and guest complaints.

  • Complete employee performance evaluations of the lift operations supervisory group.

  • Build and maintain close working relationships with Lift Maintenance, Ski Patrol, Ticket Scanning, Ski/Ride School, and foster good working relationships with all other Heavenly departments.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and clean DMV record.

  • Knowledge of basic Computer Operations Software (Office, Word, Excel).

  • Minimum 3 years previous Supervisory and/or Managerial experience.

  • Excellent Guest Service Skills.

  • Excellent conflict resolution skills.

  • Ability to Speak, Read and Write fluently in English.

  • Ability to Ski/Ride at advanced/expert level.

  • Must have previous management experience with responsibility for employees safety, guest experience, and financial accountability.

The following qualifications are preferred:

  • Familiar with Vail Resort policies and programs such as Successfactors and Peoplesoft

  • Bachelors Degree in a related field.

  • Spanish Language Ability.

  • Previous supervisory experience within a Lift Operations Department.
